The Golden Circle is one of Iceland’s most popular day tours allowing you to experience some of Iceland’s most stunning sights including the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir geothermal area and the historical and geological wonders at Thingvellir national park where the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart as well as being home to the site of the world’s oldest parliament Althing. At the end of your day you will visit the Sky Lagoon, a newly established lagoon in the greater metropolitan area of Reykjavik. The Lagoon offers exceptional views of the Atlantic ocean and an exciting 7-step ritual to nourish your senses.
What to expect:
Þingvellir national park is home to history and geological wonders. It’s a site where the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart. At Thingvellir you can visit the world’s oldest parliament site, Alþingi, which was founded in the year 930 AD. Þingvellir has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list ever since.
Gullfoss waterfall tumbles and plunges into a crevice some 32 meter (105 ft.) deep. The waterfall derives from the river Hvítá and offers exceptional scenery and views showing the true beauty of Iceland’s nature.
The Geysir geothermal area is home to the geyser Strokkur which shoots a column of water up to 30 meters (98 ft.) into the air every 4-8 minutes in a thrilling display of nature’s forces.
Fridheimar greenhouse grow delicious tomatoes year round using artificial lighting in their greenhouses. Visitors are welcomed to see these greenhouses first hand and even enjoy a taste of the crops. Fridheimar also breed icelandic horses and offer you a chance to see and pet these magnificent creatures.
Kerid crater is a volcanic crater lake located in the Grímsnes area in the southern part of Iceland. Kerið crater is approximately 3,000 years old which is roughly half the age of most volcanic calderas in Iceland. It is possible to take a path right up to the lake and walk around it to take in the true beauty of this crystal clear lake.
Sky Lagoon is a brand new lagoon built in the greater metropolitan area of Reykjavik. The lagoon offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic ocean and an exciting 7-step ritual to nourish your senses.
