Saga & Nature

94.900 kr.

Saga and Nature is a journey to the agriculture lands in West Iceland which are full of history as the setting of many Viking Sagas.

At Settlement Center Exhibition you can experience the story of Icelandic settlement back 874. Egill Skallagrimsson, a fierce viking and a renowned poet, lived near what now is the village Borgarnes.
During summer the Agriculture museum at Hvanneyri is open. There you can see how farmers lived and managed throughout the years in Iceland’s rough terrain.
Hraunfossar are beautiful waterfalls flowing from underneath a lava field exiting out of cracks in a lava wall creating this spectacular sight. Nearby you can see the powerful Barnafoss waterfalls in the fissuring Hvítá river. Barnafoss (Childrens waterfall) derives it’s name from a couple of kids that fell in and were never to be found again.
Deildartunguhver is Europe’s most powerful hot spring providing at the moment 200 l/sec of 100°C hot water. In the area surrounding the hot spring you can see a special type of fern that only grows there.
This tour is a unique experience combining history with nature.
